I’m a photographer based in Houston, TX that specializes in sophisticated wedding and high school senior photography.
As a Houston engagement photographer, Hermann Park engagement photos are often a favorite for engaged couples. When Maddie and Reed said they wanted an outdoor session, I knew Hermann Park in Houston, Texas was the perfect fit. Walking and roaming the park and stopping at a variety of places to capture photos, allows me time to really get to know my RGP couple. I don’t want to just show up on their wedding day with a camera in hand and not know their love story. This is such a sweet time when they share with me all the things they are excited about with wedding planning. I encourage them to ask questions about the planning process, recommended vendors, first looks! Anything they want!
Part of my job as a Houston engagement photographer, is to educate the RGP couples. Once a couple books, I send them a digital wedding guide which includes tips and tricks about making the most out of your engagement session. Maddie and Reed looked amazing in their coordinating blue dress + blue suit and blue shirt and gold dress! I loved the bright, bold colors they choose as it totally reflects their personalities.
Maddie and Reed met their freshman year at Texas A&M University. They lived in the same dorm and their roommates were dating. Naturally they all hung out together and a year later, Maddie and Reed started dating. They have been together ever since. Now, six years later they are ready to become husband and wife this November at Sugar Creek Country Club.
Hearing proposal stories is one of the best parts of my job! When I asked Maddie to share how Reed proposed, this is what she said:
“Reed had been in the hospital for a week (so scary!), but had gotten out just in time for his birthday. He had previously told me that all he wanted for his birthday was to go to brunch somewhere nice, just me and him. So he made reservations at Brennan’s downtown, and we went on the morning of his birthday. Right after arriving at the restaurant, we followed the hostess to what I thought was our table, but I was confused when she ushered me to the fountain in the garden. I was looking around for our table when Reed came up behind me and asked me to turn around. When I did, I found him on one knee.
I honestly don’t totally remember what happened next! I remember someone telling me to take off my mask, and I remember that Reed was talking to me and saying he loved me, but my brain was just saying “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and it’s a blur! Photographers were there taking pictures, and we went around the restaurant for a while taking pictures together afterwards. I was so shocked and was still shaking! Finally, we sat down to eat some amazing food (but I was so excited I could barely eat!).
We drove from the restaurant to my sister’s house for Reed’s “birthday” party, which turned out to be an engagement party. I later learned that the day he bought the ring was the day he was later admitted to the hospital. Poor Reed, he was so stressed about getting out of the hospital in time to go through with his plan, and I had no idea the whole time!”
Reed works as a business consultant for Ernest and Young and Maddie is a 6th grade ELA teacher at Beckendorff Junior High. When they aren’t working, they love cooking, watching movies and going on long walks. Trying new restaurants, hanging out with their dog and their families is a priority for them. No matter the activity, they honestly love just being together.
I asked Maddie what she was most looking forward to on her wedding day. She said it would be when Reed first saw her in her wedding gown. Dancing with him will be another highlight for her. To Reed and Maddie, having all their people together in one place will mean the world to them.
Maddie and Reed, I am so thrilled and honored to be a part of your love story. I can’t wait to document all the special moments on your big day, little and big! Your wedding day at Sugar Creek Country Club is going to be the best!!! Everyone here at Reed Gallagher Photography is here to serve and support you as you become husband and wife.
